BTEC students join Fire & Rescue services!

Cutting 'casualties' freeHerefordshire College of Technology BTEC National Diploma in Public Services students had a fantastic opportunity to learn first hand what was involved when the Fire and Rescue Service and Police respond to a road incident. The Fire and Rescue Service at Peterchurch kindly organised visits for two groups, along with PC Vicky Turner from West Mercia Police Force, to involve students with a road safety campaign.

The group spent time cutting ‘casualties’ out of a staged accident, learning how the Police and Fire and Rescue Service work closely together to respond and deal with such incidents. This was a great learning experience and the training was excellent, giving students an important insight into these crucial and important services to the community.

Kevin Giles from the Fire and Rescue Service commented “We take every opportunity to work with other agencies and this was a great opportunity to put the message across to young people about road safety and the dangers. Everyone wins, it was a valuable experience for the students and very worthwhile for us”.
