Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
Course Content
If you would like to be involved in teaching in the lifelong learning sector then this course is for you.
This short course provides participants with an introduction to teaching in the lifelong learning sector. It is ideally suited to those who are new to teaching and wish to have a short taster of what a teaching role involves. It is a compulsory entry requirement for further teacher training qualifications.
Entry Requirements
No previous teaching experience is necessary.

- Candidates need to have a Level 2 qualification in their vocational area
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
Course Content
- Participants attend taught sessions with some self study and reading
- They complete a Professional Development Portfolio made up of group and individual tasks, which enables them to cover all LLUK standards
- Roles and responsibilities of the practitioner including legal and statutory requirements
- Developing effective teaching and learning
- Creating effective learning environments
- Assessment activities
- Supporting learners
- Developing effective resources
Progression Opportunities
Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), a two year part-time programme leading to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status or Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS), an additional 40 hours leading to Associate Teacher Learning Skills (ATLS) status.
